Working and Receiving Retirement Benefits

You may work fewer than 1,040 hours in a calendar yearClosed Twelve calendar months commencing on January 1 and ending on December 31. and still retain your status as a retired member and continue to receive retirement benefits. Your employment will not accrue any new benefits.

If you return to employment with a PERS-participating employerClosed An employer who participates in the Oregon Public Employees Retirement System (PERS). and work 1,040 hours or more in a calendar year, your retirement benefits will cease until you re-retire. You will accrue future service and benefits as an active Tier One or Tier Two member. You will not, however, need to complete another six-month waiting period.

Note: Hours are counted in the year in which you performed the service, not in the year in which your employer reports the hours. Hours of employment are hours worked on and after your effective retirement date for which you receive wages, salary, paid leave, or other compensation.
