Membership

You are a Tier One or Tier Two member if you:

worked six full calendar months for a PERS-covered employer An employer who participates in the PERS Chapter 238 Program and whose eligible employees are entitled to Tier One or Tier Two benefits are retirement. in a qualifying position requiring at least 600 hours per calendar year Twelve calendar months commencing on January 1 and ending on December 31.;
started your waiting period no later than December 31, 1995, for Tier One membership or no later than August 28, 2003, for Tier Two membership; and
ended your waiting period The time between an employee’s hire date and the date the employee is eligible for membership in PERS. with the same employer whom you were employed with on your effective date of membership.

If you first started working for a PERS-participating employer An employer who participates in the Oregon Public Employees Retirement System (PERS). after August 28, 2003, you became a member of the OPSRP Pension Program if you qualified.

Your membership in PERS is portable, meaning that once you become a Tier One or Tier Two member, you remain a member if you later leave one participating employer to work in another qualifying position with another participating employer.
