Some PERS members with prior out-of-state teaching or administrative service at a public school in a state other than Oregon who are currently teachers or school administrators may purchase up to four years of out-of-state teaching or administrative service. You may purchase this credit if you:

are a licensed teacher as defined in ORS 342.120; |
· |
currently work for a union high school district, education service district, or common school district (includes public charter schools); |
· |
worked as a teacher in another state before being employed as a teacher in Oregon; |
· |
worked in a public school system (grades K - 12); and |
· |
are not entitled to a pension or retirement allowance for this service. |
Note: In this context, "teacher" includes all licensed employees who gave direct responsibility for instruction, coordination of educational programs, or supervision or evaluation of teachers. This definition includes school administrators.
Participation in a deferred compensation (IRC 457) or a 403(b) plan does not affect this purchase. Service time attributable to private school employment is not eligible for purchase.
