Credit for Disability Periods

To receive the retirement credit, if your PERS disability was approved as a “Non-Duty Disability,” you must apply to purchase the retirement credit and make the full-cost purchase within 90 days preceding your effective date of service retirement.

To receive the retirement credit, if your PERS disability was approved as a “Duty Disability” or you were receiving workers’ compensation payments, you must request the retirement credit any time prior to your effective retirement service retirement date and no later than 240 days after the date on your Notice of Entitlement for service retirement. No payment is required; your employer pays the cost. If the retirement credit is for a period when you were receiving workers’ compensation payments, you must also submit acceptable documentation of an approved workers’ compensation claim.
